CONSTITUTION OF LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY,

CLEARFIELD CAMPUS,

CRIMINAL JUSTICE ASSOCIATION

LAMBDA ALPHA EPSILON

  

 

PREAMBLE

 

We, the Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus, Criminal Justice Association, desiring to represent the members in their program; to promote professional, social, educational, and cultural activities; to encourage the participation of members in service activities; and to cooperate with all other recognized campus organizations, do establish this Constitution for the Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus, Criminal Justice Association.

 

 

 

ARTICLE I

 

NAME

 

The name of this organization shall be THE LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY, CLEARFIELD CAMPUS, CRIMINAL JUSTICE ASSOCIATION.

 

ARTICLE II

 

OBJECTIVES

 

Section 1.          REPRESENTATIVE

 

To represent the Criminal Justice Association Members in all aspects of the campus and community affairs.

 

2.             INFORMATIVE       

 

 To inform the members of the current criminal justice movements, existing institutions, theories and methods by means of speakers, movies, books, periodicals, and other aids which are available.

 

3.             TRANSMISSIVE

 

To disseminate information about the criminal justice system to fellow students and the community.

 

4.             PRACTICAL SERVICE

 

To sponsor and encourage participation in service activities by Criminal Justice Association members.

 

 

ARTICLE III

 

MEMBERSHIP

 

Section 1.         MEMBERSHIP STATUS

 

                         A)  Regular Member -   Any student enrolled in the 

                               Criminal Justice Program at Lock Haven

                               University, Clearfield Campus,  who has a sincere

                               interest in the aims of the group is eligible for

                              membership in said organization.

 

 B)  Alumni -   Any graduate of Lock Haven University,

      Clearfield Campus, who has worked with the    

Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus, Criminal Justice Association shall be granted alumni status.

 

                         C)  Honorary -   The association shall approve honorary

                              membership by majority vote of the members present

                             at the time the motion is brought to the floor. 

 

2.     To be a regular member of this organization, an

      aspirant must attend at least one previous meeting and

      indicate a genuine interest in becoming a member.

 

3.     Any regular member who is absent from more than       

     three (3) consecutive meetings or attends less than 50% of

     the declared meetings or functions is  subject to dismissal

     from this association by a decision of the executive

     committee.

 

4.      The amount of dues shall be set and approved at the

      beginning of each semester by the membership. 

      Payment of dues by a pre-arranged date shall be a        

                   prerequisite for voting rights in the association.

 

5.     The Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus,

     Criminal Justice Association accepts as its

     responsibility the recruitment of members from all

     racial, ethnic, and sexual groups.

 

ARTICLE IV

 

OFFICERS

 

Section 1.      There shall be five (5) officers of said organization

                      who shall retain their offices throughout the academic

                      year, and they shall be a President, vice-President, 

                      Secretary, and Treasurer.  The President and Vice-

                      President shall be a junior or senior Criminal Justice

                      Major during the academic year for which they are

                     elected.  Any member of the Criminal Justice

                    Association is eligible for the offices of Secretary and

                    Treasurer.

 

2.         Election for the office of all the officers shall be held at

       thelast regular meeting of said organization each academic

       year with nominations having been made at the previous

       meeting.

 

3.                  The PRESIDENT of said organization shall:

 

A.     Preside at all business meetings.

B.     Preside at all Executive Committee meetings.

C.     Appoint all committees and committee Chairpersons.

D.     Act as a delegate to the Student Government Association.

E.      Have any other duties that shall be delegated to him/her.

 

4.                  The VICE_PRESIDENT of said organization shall:

 

A.     Preside over all business meetings in the absence of the President.

B.     Shall assume the duties of the President in the event the elected President leaves office during their elected term.

C.     Shall have other duties as are customary and delegated to him/her.

 

5.                  The SECRETARY of said organization shall:

 

A.     Keep an accurate account of proceedings in a permanent record book.

B.     Be custodian of all papers of the organization and take charge of all correspondence.

 

6.                  The TREASURER of said organization shall:

 

A.     Prepare a tentative budget for the year.

B.     Keep a permanent account of all expenditures of the organization.

 

7.         The PARLIAMENTARIAN of said organization shall:

 

            A.  To ensure that the meetings are conducted according

                  to Robert's Rules of Order.

            B.  Other duties as assigned by the President.

 

8.                  There shall be a faculty member or members to act as advisor(s) of said organization who shall guide the membership and be a member of the Executive Committee.

 

9.                  In the event that any officer should leave office during their elected term, the President shall appoint a new officer from a list of three (3) candidates submitted by the membership to fulfill the unexpired term of the vacated office.

 

10.                  Any officer who is delinquent in the performance of the duties of their position, according to ARTICLE IV sections 3-6, shall be brought to hearing with a two-thirds vote.  If the officer is found delinquent by the Executive Committee at the hearing, said officer shall be removed from office.  The President shall appoint a new officer from a list of three (3) candidates submitted by the membership to fulfill the unexpired term of the vacated office.  The officer in question shall be granted an assigned date and time whereby they will be able to address the other officers regarding their pending dismissal.

 

ARTICLE V

 

STANDING COMMITTEES

 

            The Standing Committees shall consist of the following:

 

Section 1.         EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

The Executive Committee is an advisory board of this organization.  It shall consist of the officers of the said organization, the faculty advisor(s), and any additional representatives deemed necessary.

 

2.                  THE COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE

 

The committee shall be responsible for the development of programs and activities aimed at educating and informing the community and other university students as to the goals and values of the Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus, Criminal Justice Association.

 

3.                  CURRICULUM REVIEW COMMITTEE

 

This committee shall be responsible for the periodic review of the Criminal Justice curriculum to ensure its relevancy for practice and to provide recommendations to the faculty for modifications and/or improvement.

 

4.                  THE PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

 

The committee shall be responsible for advertising and publicizing all meetings, special accomplishments, and association activities.

 

5.                  THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE

 

The committee shall be responsible for organizing all social activities and events.

 

ARTICLE VI

 

AMMENDMENT PROCEDURES

 

Section 1.         Amendments to the Constitution and By-Laws can be enacted by a simple majority vote of the attending members of the association.
